SHIGA KOGEN SKI RESORT: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Located around 45km to the east of Nagano City, Shiga Kogen is Japan’s largest and highest ski resort, boasting an unmatched expanse of interconnected terrain and Nagano’s longest ski season. All the ski fields of Shiga Kogen are covered by an all-mountain pass and best enjoyed on a multi-day visit.
Shiga’s ski fields lie between 1340 and 2307 metres and as such, are notably higher than any other resort in the region and ideally-suited to beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. For a complete run-down of what’s on offer in Shiga, see our ‘Shiga Kogen Ski Resort’ page.
CHOOSE YOUR ACCOMMODATION IN SHIGA KOGEN
As Japan’s largest ski resort, it’s important to choose carefully when booking your accommodation. Visitors wanting to stay in Shiga Kogen have accommodation options spread across the resort including ski in/out options, while many people also choose to stay in the valley below the resort in the hot spring towns of Kanbayashi Onsen, Shibu Onsen and Yudanaka Onsen – all within 25 to 30-minutes drive of Shiga Kogen’s lowest ski areas.
What is the best option for you? If you want direct access to the ski fields of Shiga Kogen each morning, then it’s best to stay at a hotel within the resort. However, if you don’t mind using a bus, taxi or your own car to get to and from the resort each day, then staying in the hot spring towns below gives you much greater choice in terms of accommodation including many ‘ryokan’ (traditional guesthouses), hot springs, restaurants and access to the ski resorts of Kita-Shiga Kogen. We are proud to partner with the following hotels inside Shiga Kogen Ski Resort:
