Located just a stone’s throw away from the famous Shinkyo Bridge and at the foot of Nikko National Park, this cosy cafe is said to be over 300 years old, and used to be an old Japanese style house built overlooking the stunning greenery of the surrounding forest and mountainous landscape.

At Hongu Cafe you can enjoy a variety of hot and cold food, sweets, coffee and matcha. We recommend you try their matcha and yokan tea set. A traditional Japanese sweet which consists of a block of sweet red bean paste which pairs perfectly with the slight bitterness of the matcha. We also highly recommend the Strawberry Juice on offer! Tochigi prefecture is famous for its high quality Strawberries that it yields, and Hongu’s homemade juice is an excellent way to sample just how delicious they are! Hongu also offers varies dishes such as pasta, sandwiches and noodles to satisfy your hunger.

To make it even more special, the cafe has outdoor seating in the form of long bench seating which guests can enjoy with their refreshments overlooking the greenery and breathing in the fresh mountain air. It is especially nice in the Autumn months where you can take in the spectacular sights of Nikko’s famous Autumn leaves and vidid colours. We suggest stopping off at the cafe for refreshments or lunch before making your way into the National Park to explore the stunning shrines and temples.
