Sake Tasting in Sapporo

Sake Tasting in Sapporo

A sake tasting experience typically involves sampling different types of sake to understand their flavors, aromas, and characteristics. You learn about sake production, including the ingredients (rice, water, yeast, and koji mold), brewing methods, and regional variations. You taste various sake styles, such as Junmai, Ginjo, Daiginjo, and Nigori. The tasting often highlights the influence of factors like rice polishing ratios, brewing techniques, and aging. Participants focus on the aroma, taste, and texture of each sake, identifying notes like fruity, floral, umami, or earthy. Some tastings include food pairings to show how sake complements different dishes, enhancing the overall experience.

The Sapporo sake tasting tour will focus on all or some of the following types of sake:

Junmai: Pure rice sake, made without added alcohol or sugar, with a rich and robust flavor. Ginjo: Highly polished rice (60% or less remains), resulting in a lighter, fruitier, and aromatic profile. Daiginjo: Even more polished rice (50% or less remains), offering a refined, delicate, and complex flavor. Nigori: Unfiltered sake with a cloudy appearance, often sweeter and creamy in texture.
