Midori Department Store
Shopping is always a fun occasion and that fact doesn’t change in Japan. So when you’re in Nagano and aching for some new clothes, jewelry, souvenirs, books, etc., go to the following department store.
In Nagano City there is a big department-store called Midori, meaning green in Japanese. It is directly attached to the station and is big enough to get lost in for several hours. It has 6 floors filled with clothing shops, a book store, drug stores and many more.
On the opposite side of the department store in a separate section is the souvenir corner. It is not so much a corner as it is a huge open space with various shops. They sell everything food-related from the local delicacy oyaki to soba (or buckwheat noodles) flavored ice-cream.
On the third floor you’ll find Restaurant City. The restaurants there range from traditional Japanese to food like Italian or hamburgers.
All in all, Midori has more than enough going on to keep you busy for the day.
