The area known as Ise Shima (or Ise Peninsula) is home to Japan’s most important Shinto shrines, onsen (hot spring) areas, themes parks and a renowned pearl cultivation industry. As such, it attracts many visitors each year with numerous hotels and guesthouses servicing the high demand. The area is most famous as home to the Ise Grand Shrine – the most important Shinto shrines in Japan – along with its rugged yet beautiful coastline. Easily accessed from Nagoya or Osaka, Ise Shima is well-worth exploring for a day or two.
