Myoko Kogen: Suginohara Area
Known for its long runs – the longest of which is 8.5km – and gentle terrain, Myoko Suginohara is a perfect resort for beginners and families while intermediate skiers and snowboarders will enjoy finding their confidence in the trees. Largely undiscovered by international visitors, Suginohara offers a nice alternative to the busier resorts of nearby Nagano, especially when combined with the other resorts of Myoko Kogen on a multi-day visit. Accommodation in the immediate vicinity of the resort is limited ski lodges and hotels, most of which are budget to mid-range. Most are family-run and offer a warm welcome and with little night-time dining or entertainment available nearby, if you do choose to stay at the resort its best to include all meals with your accommodation. If you’re after more choice, including dining and a little bit of nightlife, consider staying in the central village of Akakura Onsen and using a bus or taxi to reach Suginohara.
