Shikoku: Teshima Area
The small island of Teshima lies between the even smaller (but more popular) island of Naoshima to its west and notably larger Shodoshima to its west. The islands sit within the Seto Inland Sea and enjoy at Mediterranean-like climate and over recent years have become best-known as the most popular art islands of the Setouchi Art Triennale. Teshima Art Museum is the main venue on the island, an intriguing modern design that blends into the surrounding landscape of rice fields. Other venues and installations on the island include Teshima Yokoo House, Shima Kitchen, Les Archives du Coeur and others. The island offers limited accommodation and can be enjoyed as a day-trip however should you wish to stay, there a couple of nice guesthouses to choose from noting that prices can be very high, especially so during summer. Make sure to book ahead or else don’t hesitate to visit Teshima as a day-trip using ferry services to and from the islands.
