Yokohama: Yokohama Station Area
Yokohama Station is one of several major stations in the city and a primary hub for anyone traveling to and from Tokyo using standard train lines. Within easy reach of most of the city’s most popular attractions, Yokohama Station offers a good number of hotels mostly located in the area to its immediate west. The Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel is the best option in the area with several other large, Western-style hotels offering a range of room types at typically reasonable prices.
It should be noted that Yokohama Station is not serviced by a Shinkansen / ‘Bullet Train’ line, with Shin-Yokohama Station being the city’s only shinkansen station. So if you’re looking for the fastest way into Tokyo or to reach other parts of Japan, transferring to Shin-Yokohama will be the best option. However, Yokohama station is still serviced by a number of train lines that you can use to reach Tokyo. JR East Lines all run from here including the Tokaido Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, Shonan-Shinjuku Line and more. For example, you can reach Shinjuku station in just 30 minutes or Shibuya in just 25 minutes using the direct rapid service on the Shonan-Shinjuku Line. There are also a number of private railways such as the Tokyu Toyoko Line, Keikyu Main Line and more. The Tokyu Tohoku Line Express service is equally as fast as the Shonan-Shinjuku Line for reaching Shibuya directly. You can use the JR Ueno Tokyo Line seegice to reach Tokyo station is 25 minutes . You can use the subway line, the Yokohama City Subway Blue Line to reach Shin-Yokohama station in just 11 minutes.
Yokohama station is a large commerical complex, and is surrounded by many amenities such as department stores, shops, restaurants and cafes. Visitors can enjoy browsing in stores such as Sogo and the popular department store Takashimaya. Yokohama station also offers great access to additional transportation such as buses, taxis and airport shuttles making it easy to travel to and from Tokyo’s airports.
