Edo Wonderland
If you love Samurai history and traditional Japanese culture then we recommend heading to Edo Wonderland for a fun and engaging activity! For families, couples, or even solo travellers, this attraction will suit all audiences. Edo wonderland is an historical theme park that recreates the atmosphere of the Edo period which spanned from 1603 – 1868, allowing visitors to experience what it was like during the Samurai era in Japan. The entire park is a life sized replica of an Edo town, meaning you can fully engage with the buildings and props, enjoying the traditional architecture and atmosphere. Edo Wonderland is so accurate and authentic in its atmosphere, that it has even been used for the filming of many TV shows.
Actors walk around the park playing a range of characters to help visitors become fully immersed in Edo Japan. There are a whole programme of immersive experiences such as being able to dress in traditional clothes, Samurai sword demonstrations and fighting, as well as workshops where visitors can try wielding a sword and learn Samurai martial arts. Aside from Samurai experiences, there are also Ninja, Kabuki, Oiran and Geisha based content to enjoy. We highly recommend catching the Ninja Show!
Edo Wonderland is home to a range of restaurants and eateries where you can enjoy a variety of foods and drinks. Trying street food that was popular during the Edo period is an interesting and enjoyable experience. There are even actors that serve you, so you can enjoy a lunch break with a difference! To reach Edo Wonderland from Tobu Nikko station or JR Nikko station, visitors can take the local bus which will take approximately 40 minutes depending on traffic. There is a free shuttle bus which operates from JR Nikko station and from Nikko Toshogu Shrine Omotesando bus stop, but nite that during periods of congestion the bus will not operate. Check Edo Wonderland’s official website for more information.
