One of the most popular activities to do around the Lake Kawaguchiko area is the Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway and Shrine. Visitors can enjoy a round trip ride up to the top of the mountainous terrain to see spectacular views of Mount Fuji, Kawaguchiko and beyond.

Visitors can reach the ropeway by taking the red line sightseeing bus from Kawaguchiko station to the ‘Sightseeing Boat/Ropeway’ bus stop. The bus journey will take approximately 11 minutes depending on traffic and how busy the bus is. The bus drops you directly opposite the ropeway entrance.

You can purchase either a single trip or a round trip for the ropeway. For those wanting a single trip, there is a hiking route up and down the mountain if you would like to do that. However, we recommend purchasing a round trip ticket. A single trip ticket costs 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children. A round trip costs 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children. They also offer discounts for those living with disabilities.

The journey to the top takes approximately 3 minutes where you will travel to an altitude of 1,075 meters. At the top, visitors can enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Fuji. There are various observation points and an observation deck to provide visitors with a 360 view from different angles of at the top. There is also a small shrine decorated with Rabbit statues and Tanuki (Racoon Dog) statues dedicated to an old Japanese folktale called ’Kachi-Kachi Yama’ where a Rabbit tries to outwit the Tanuki. There is a small cafe and souvenir shop where customers can enjoy snacks such as Mitarashi Dango rice dumplings. Finally, visitors can enjoy ’Kawarake’ throwing, where you throw clay disks over a rope ring and is said to bring good fortune for those that make the shot!
