Nezu Shrine
Located in the hidden gem of Nezu, adjacent to the neighbouring areas of Sendagi and Yanaka, Nezu shrine is one of the most beautiful and striking shrines in Tokyo. It is a Shinto Shrine dating back to 1705, and is one of the oldest places of worship in the area.
If you’re a fan of the stunning ’Fushimi Inari’ shrine in Kyoto, then you will love visiting Nezu Shrine. It has rows and rows of red Torii gates that visitors can walk through, Inari Fox statues are dotted throughout the grounds, and you can watch Koi Carp swimming in the shrine’s pond. It is completely free to enter the shrine’s grounds. You can also see a traditional stage used for traditional theatre performances throughout the year.
In the months of April and May, Visitors can attend the Azalea festival that’s held on the shrine’s grounds which you will have to pay a small entrance fee for, usually 500 yen. The vibrant flowers against the red torii gates makes for an unforgettable experience! There are even local flea markets held here throughout the year where you can buy traditional crafts, kimono and food.
