Servicing Ryuoo Ski Park in winter – the largest ski resort in Kita-Shiga Kogen – the Skyland Express Ropeway operates for most of the year including from May until November. The upper station is located at 1770 metres above sea level, from which point an observation deck provides a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape, looking west toward the North Japan Alps.

The observation deck joins to Sora Terrace, a café that remains open through the year. Serving a typical menu including drinks, snacks and light meals, Sora Terrace is a popular spot to stop and enjoy the view. Of particular fame, the ‘Sea of Clouds’ phenomena can be seen on days when clouds and fog fill the valley below, and the observation deck and café appear to float in the sky.
