Sapporo TV Tower
The Sapporo TV Tower is a prominent landmark in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. It is situated at the eastern end of Odori Park, a central green space in Sapporo. Built in 1957, it is one of Sapporo’s oldest modern landmarks. It was designed by architect Tachu Naito, a renowned Japanese architect also known for designing Tokyo Tower.
It stands 147.2 meters with its observation deck located at 90.38 meters above the ground. Offers panoramic views of the city, including Odori Park, Mt. Moiwa, and on clear days, Mt. Teine. Night views are particularly stunning, with city lights creating a beautiful contrast.
In the past, the tower served as a primary transmission hub for TV broadcasts in the region. While its broadcasting functions have diminished, it retains symbolic significance. Those wanting to “dig deeper” into the history of The TV Tower will find a small museum in the tower showcasing its history and Sapporo’s development.
