Yokohama : Cupnoodles Museum
Situated in Kanagawa prefecture, just under 40 minutes from Tokyo, is Yokohama. To reach Yokohama from Tokyo, take a train from Shinjuku station for 35 minutes using the JR Shonan Shinjuku line. For most people visiting Japan they often explore the city of Tokyo. However, as Japan’s second largest city, the picturesque port city of Yokohama is a perfect alternative and day trip from Tokyo. Yokohama is a city rich in history and urban flare, and has the perfect blend of modern and traditional elements with its open waterfronts, historical architecture and urbanised development offering visitors a fun and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Complimenting this great atmosphere is the Yokohama Cupnoodles Museum and Park.
This interactive food museum is a fun and engaging way to learn about one of Japan’s most successful inventions the Cupnoodle, and now beloved by many across the world! The museum has many engaging exhibits where you will learn all about how the creator of Cupnoodles Momofuku Ando came up with the original idea, see how the product has changed over time, see creative art installations, and even an original animated film. To reach the Cupnoodles Museum take a train from Yokohama station to Minatomirai station and walk for approximately 8 minutes. You can also take the train from Yokohama station to Sakuragicho station and take the Air Cabin to Unga Park station, which is conveniently just a 5 minute walk away from the Cupnoodles Museum.
As well as the main museum, visitors can also have the opportunity to customise their very own pack of Cupnoodles in the museum’s ‘My Cupnoodles Factory’! During this 30 minute experience you will design your packaging by drawing and colouring onto the blank Cupnoodle pack provided, and then create your very own unique flavour by choosing from four soups and twelve toppings. The museum boasts that in total there are 5,460 flavour combinations to create! It is worth noting that this experience is very popular, and tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. So please bear in mind you may not be able to do the experience at the same time you visit the museum that day, and may need to return later that day instead. The museum also has an interactive park and play area for children, as well as exclusive chicken ramen making workshops which require special bookings.
