Tokyo: Asakusa Station Area
Asakusa is a vibrant neighbourhood of Tokyo, best known for the impressive Senso-ji Temple, lots of eateries and plenty of shopping. As an older area of Tokyo, Asakusa has lots of character with rickshaws catering to the many visitors that head to the area each day. Within walking distance of Asakasa, Tokyo Skytree is the capital’s tallest building and one of the most popular attractions in the city – another reason the area is so popular with international visitors. We highly recommend spending your day visiting the temple complex, eating street food and heading to nearby Kappabashi or ’Kitchen Town’ as it’s known!
It is important to note that Asakusa is home to two major stations which can be confusing for many, and each is served by a different train line. The main station you want will be Asakusa Station served by the Toei Line and Ginza Line. This is the station that is the closest to Kaminari-mon, Nakamise Dori and Sensoji Temple. There is another major station located just across the street from the other station. It is built within the Ekimise Department store, and is connected by the Tobu Isesaki line. This station is most useful if you want to go across the river to the Tokyo Skytree which has its own station. This station is also used for taking trips to Nikko in Tochigi prefecture!

In the area around Asakusa Station, there is a good variety of affordable hotels – including some 4 and 3-star options – and traditional ‘ryokan’ guesthouses. In terms of high-end accommodation, there isn’t a lot in the area. Visitors looking for higher-end options should consider the nearby areas of Tokyo Station / Marunouchi or Ginza Station.
