Fukui: Fukui Station Area
Fukui City is the capital of Fukui Prefecture. A convenient stop on the Limited Express Thunderbird service running from Kanazawa to Kyoto and Osaka, Fukui City itself doesn’t have a lot of attractions but is an ideal hub from which to explore the wider region including two of Central Japan’s most rewarding destinations – the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum and Daihonzan Eihei-ji Temple.
From Fukui, visitors can also head east to Hakusan National Park and onto further destinations including Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, Takayama and eventually onto Kamikochi. Located nearby the coast, visitors can also explore the rugged coastline of the Sea of Japan including its excellent seafood markets. The main concentration of hotels – mostly larger, Western-style hotels – is in the area around Fukui Station.
