Located along the shores of Kawaguchi Lake (Kawaguchiko), numerous guesthouses and hotels afford guests outstanding views of Mount Fuji. Many have their own in-house ‘onsen’ (hot springs), including both indoor and outdoor baths; the latter of which also often provide fantastic views of the mountain. Soaking in a hot spring while enjoying the view of Mount Fuji is without ‘the’ Japanese experience. Kawaguchiko is large with accommodation spread-out along its shores and covering a large area. Given the popularity of the area with both Japanese and international visitors, prices can be high but well-worth it just for the experience of staying in the shadow of Fuji. Travelers wanting the best range of accommodation, great views of the mountain plus ease of access to its climbing trails will find the Kawaguchiko area the most attractive option.
