Most famous for its castle, Kumamoto is an easy city to reach thanks to the Kyushu Shinkansen line which includes a stop at Kumamoto Station. The station is located slightly to the south of the city centre and castle area but as the primary point of access to the city, is a convenient place to stay. In the area immediately around the station, you’ll find a range of Western-style hotels including the highly-rated The Blossom Kumamoto directly accessible from the station. You’ll also find reasonably priced business hotels surrounding the station from where you can reach the castle using frequent tram services – 10 to 15 minutes – or on-foot – in around 30 minutes. When visiting Kumamoto, it’s important to note that you’ll find the largest range of accommodation in the vicinity of Kumamoto Castle.
