Murodo Station / Mikurigaike Onsen Area
Visitors headed to the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route have the option of staying at the summit in the area around Murodo Station – the highest point of the route. Located at 2450 metres above sea level, in this area you can enjoy the enormous ‘Snow Walls’ from mid-April into June, followed by fantastic hiking trails that can be enjoyed from July until November. The area around the station is known as the Mikurigaike plateau and blessed with natural hot springs, it’s a unique place to stay.
Accommodation options include the large Hotel Tateyama and some smaller mountain lodges. Hotel Tateyama offers the most comfortable stay with Western-style rooms and amenities while the quality and character of the surrounding lodges varies. Prices tend to be high given the popularity of the route and limited number of accommodation options, however staying at the summit offers a unique experience and is renowned for its stunning starscape, sunrises and sunsets. Please note, the public can only access this area from mid-April until mid-November when the Alpine Route is operating.
