Naeba Area
Naeba Ski Resort is one of the most popular winter destinations in Niigata. Serviced by the immense Prince Naeba Hotel and connected to Kagura Ski Resort by the ‘Dragondola’, staying at Naeba provides access to the largest extent of connected terrain in Niigata.
Outside of winter, Naeba hosts Japan’s largest music festival, Fuji Rock, while offering spectacular hiking from late-spring through to autumn as the ‘Dragondola’ continues to operate, transporting visitors high into the mountains. October to November is particularly spectacular time to visit and ride the gondola as the area is blessed with some of Central Japan’s most beautiful autumn leaves.
Outside of Prince Naeba Hotel, accommodation options in the area are limited with some small lodges, hotels and ‘minshuku’ (basic guesthouses) dotted around the area. Most are family-run and the owners may well not speak English. You can still expect a warm welcome however should you want access to outside dining options, bars and other entertainment its best to consider staying in nearby Yuzawa.
