Tokyo: Odaiba-Kaihinkoen Station Area
Odaiba in a man-made island in Tokyo Bay and home to a large shopping, entertainment and event district that attracts thousands of visitors every day. Known for its distinctive, modern architecture, the area is dominated by iconic buildings including Tokyo Big Sight, the Fuji TV Building and the Telecom Center. Visitors heading to Tokyo for large events may well find themselves heading to Odaiba, with locations including Tokyo Big Sight hosting a busy and diverse calendar of events through the year.
As such, the area also boasts multiple large hotels including the high-end Hilton Tokyo Odaiba and Grand Nikko Tokyo. The area is also home to a number of good mid-range and budget options, making it an attractive option for many international visitors. While it may not be the first area you think to stay when booking your trip to Tokyo, Odaiba has lots going for it.
Unfortunately Odaiba is not the most central of locations for visiting or staying, but don’t let this put you off! Odaiba is home to a selection of amenities and attractions. Odaiba Station is served by the Yurikamome Line and the Rinkai Line. The Yurikamome Line is an automated transit line which connects the area of Shimbashi to Odaiba. It makes for a very scenic journey, with great views of Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge as you move! The Rinkai Line connects Odaiba to the central parts of Tokyo such as Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. You can reach areas such as Shinjuku in approximately 40 – 50 minutes, Shibuya in approximately 40 minutes, and Tokyo in approximately 25 minutes.
Odaiba and Tokyo Bay was designed to be a multi entertainment space, and as a result you are spoilt for choice on attractions. Families and all ages will find something to suit them. Odaiba Seaside Park is a beautiful waterfront area where you can enjoy a walk, picnic and scenic views of the Tokyo Skyline. Odaiba is also home to one of the most popular attractions in all of Tokyo, TeamLab Borderless! This is an immersive and highly engaging digital art experience where you walk through different rooms projecting nature and images to provide a one of a kind visual experience. If you’re a science lover, the Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation is a must visit to spark the imagination! Odaiba is even home to an indoor theme park called ’Joypolis’ which would be great fun for families and adrenaline junkies. For those wanting to try ’Onsen’ or hot springs in the Tokyo area head to Oedo Onsen Monogatari, a hot spring themed park with traditional style onsen.
