As the name implies, the Old Ginza / Kyukaruizawa area of Karuizawa is the heart of the original town. Located to the north of Karuizawa Station, it can be reached on-foot within 15 minutes walk or alternatively, is only a short bus or taxi ride. This area of Karuizawa retains much of its charm and historic character and is home to smaller hotels and guesthouses including several high-end ‘ryokan’ (traditional guesthouses).
The area contrasts with the large-scale, modern and sprawling development of Prince Shopping Plaza and its nearby hotels and ski resort to the south of the station, offering a very different experience to those facilities – noting that the Karuizawa Station Area and Naka-Karuizawa Station Area area also offer plenty of excellent accommodation.
