Tanabe City is a convenient start or end point for visitors walking the pilgrimage trails of the Kumano Kodo. Tanabe can be easily accessed via Kii-Tanabe Station from where bus services run to and from locations within the Kumano Kodo area. The city offers a range of accommodation with the hot spring/beach resort of Shirahama only 15 kilometres from the city.
