Yokohama: Sakuragicho Station Area
Sakuragicho station is a key railway station in Yokohama. It acts as an important gateway for travellers and is one of the oldest stations in Japan, dating back to when Japanese rail technology first started emerging in the Meiji period. Sakuragicho is perfect for people wanting to explore Yokohama’s waterfront location, as well as many of Yokohama’s popular attractions due to its close proximity. The station has many amenities such as shops, restaurants, cafes and even a cinema.
Yokohama’s popular Minato Mirai 21 waterfront area is just short walk from the station. This area is a picturesque waterfront with modern urban development. You can enjoy seeing the many skyscrapers, and visiting the shopping malls and restaurants. The area is also home to the Yokohama Landmark Tower and Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris Wheel.

It should be noted that Sakuragicho Station is not serviced by a Shinkansen / ‘Bullet Train’ line, with Shin-Yokohama Station being the city’s only shinkansen station. So if you’re looking for the fastest way into Tokyo or to reach other parts of Japan, transferring to Shin-Yokohama will be the best option. However, Sakuragicho station is still serviced by a number of train lines that you can use to reach Tokyo, with transfers required at Yokohama station. Travellers can use the JR Keihintohoku Line – Negishi Line rapid services to reach Yokohama station, before transferring to reach their desired locations in Tokyo.
Only 3 minutes from Yokohama Station by train using the Negishi Line, Sakuragicho Station and the surrounding precinct is another area in which you’ll find good accommodation options. Large hotels include Yokohama Sakuragicho Washington Hotel, New Otani and Hotel Resol Yokohama. Slightly more central than the Yokohama Station, staying around Sakuragicho Station provides easy access to the Minato Mirai 21 bayside district on-foot or via the Yokohama Air Cabin and puts you within walking distance of the popular Chinatown district – only 30 minutes on-foot.
