More than any other style of dining, ‘kaiseki’ embodies the art and delicate precision of traditional Japanese culture and with a menu designed to highlight the best seasonal ingredients available. Courses are prepared to celebrate the flavors and colors of the best seasonal produce while the aesthetic of their presentation is given equal consideration. Served in beautiful surroundings of this 100-year old restaurant, Shunka’s ‘kaiseki’ menu is one of Nagano’s best food experiences.

On the second floor, the restaurant serves traditional ‘kaiseki’ (multi-course) menu highlights the best seasonal and local ingredients meaning your experience changes with the seasons and is always unique.

Three course options – Asagao (JPY30,000) / Suzuran (JPY40,000) / Cosmos (JPY50,000 per person) – offer guests set menus including appetizers, soups, sashimi and sushi, steamed and simmered dishes and dessert, each reflective of the season. Japan’s famous ‘wagyu’ beef is always on the menu and a highlight of this truly special dining experience.

Fine-Dining ‘Tempura’ Course

On the ground floor, Shunka’s ‘tempura’ restaurant serves an outstanding menu of seasonal ingredients of the highest quality, lightly battered and fried and prepared in front of you. Known as a Japanese staple, Shunka allows you experience tempura as a fine dining experience. Master chef Nakamura uses the best seafood and vegetables to prepare multi-dish menus, impressively prepared and cooked in front of diners.

Selecting the best seasonal ingredients, meals include 13 pieces with three set menus to choose from: ‘Ajisai’ (JPY20,000) / ‘Kinmokusei’ (JPY30,000) / ‘Himawari’ (JPY40,000) per person – with each price point reflective of the quality of ingredients used. Chef Nakamura will also suggest the best ‘sake’ to match your menu and ensure you experience one of your best food experiences while in Japan. Advance booking is required.
