Nagano city lies at an ideal location for a ski holiday, just about an hour drive to Nozawa Onsen, Shiga Kogen, Hakuba, and many other ski resorts. While staying at each of the ski resorts is definitely a  memorable experience, the growing popularity of the resorts often limits the availability of  accommodations as well as the dining facilities, which could be stressful at times. 

On the other hand, Nagano city offers a variety of accommodation and dining options, making it possible to enjoy both skiing and a comfortable city stay. In addition, there are tourist hot spots such as the Snow Monkey Park and Zenkoji Temple nearby Nagano city, which may enrich your stay in Japan.

CHOOSE YOUR ACCOMMODATION IN NAGANO CITY

Nagano City boasts lots of accommodation options, most of which are centred around Nagano Station – a stop on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line running from Tokyo to Kanazawa – 80 to 110-minutes from Tokyo depending on which service you use. Other train lines, tours, local buses and taxis all operate from the station making the area around it, the most convenient place to stay when exploring the region. The area immediately around Nagano Station has plenty of large hotels catering to international visitors. Prices are typically good with many hotels offering Western-style rooms and amenities, in-house restaurants and English-speaking staff. Around 15 to 20-minutes walk from the station, the area around Zenko-ji Temple has smaller guesthouses including many ‘shukubo’ (temple lodgings) in the surrounding streets.

Many if not most people heading to the ski resorts of Nagano and Niigata do so via Nagano Station and Echigo-Yuzawa Station. Both are serviced by Shinkansen/Bullet Train lines running from Tokyo, making them quick and easy to get to.
