DT Suzuki Museum

The DT Suzuki Museum commemorates the life and work of Suzuki Daisetz Teitaro. Located in the area of Kanazawa where he was born, this small museum showcases his life and work, often cited for his role in introducing Japanese Zen philosophy and teaching to Western audiences. Throughout his life he relentless studied Buddhism and translated many classical works from Korea, Vietnam and China to deepen his knowledge of the Mahayana tradition. The idea of Zen as a philosophy emphasizes the importance of performing mundane tasks as way to achieve enlightenment, meaning that every person, even the most ordinary, can achieve enlighten in their own way.

The architecture of the museum reflects those teachings through tranquil, uncluttered lines and structures. Located on the backside of Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle, a visit to the museum can easily be incorporated into a day spent exploring Kanazawa’s most enjoyable attractions. There are rooms for you to read his works in various languages with nice views of nature. The central pool also has many angles to observe it from so you can deepen your thoughts and find your own peace in your own way.
