Maruyama Park

Maruyama Park is a large public park located between the always popular Higashiyama District and Yasaka Shrine. Given its size, the park can be approached from multiple directions however most visitors enter via through the gate of Yasaka Shrine – which effectively sits inside the park – or along the earthen-walled streets leading from Higashiyama. Popular at all times of year, the park is at its busiest in early April as its many cherry blossom trees popular and Kyoto residents gather with friends and family to enjoy ‘hanami’ (flower viewing).

Many of the trees are illuminated at night, conjuring a seductive atmosphere that keeps groups seat on their mats and low tables well into the night. In October and November, the park is awash with beauty as the autumn leaves turn and couples, families and friends stroll the grounds.

To reach the park from Kyoto Station, take Bus No.100 or 206 and disembark at the Gion Bus Stop - approx. 20 minutes. Alternatively, it's a 40 minute walk from Kyoto Station or 10 minute walk for either Gion-Shijo Station or Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station
