‘Yumomi’ Performance

‘Yumomi’ Performance

‘Yumomi’ is a daily performance taking place in Kusatsu Onsen every day, during which a local troupe of performers use large wooden paddles to stir the thermal water. Taking place inside the ‘Netsunoyu’ building adjacent the town’s large ‘yubatake’, six performances occur each day.

The earliest performance is at 09:30 while the latest is at 16:30. Each performance lasts around minutes 30 in which time, the troupe sings as they stir the water, wearing traditional costumes and often inviting members of the audience to assist them. Watching ‘yumomi’ is a truly unique experience.
