Held every year in the early cold of winter, the Azumino Kamikari is held at the beautiful Hotaka Shrine. Over two thousand bamboo lanterns light up the shrine and surround precinct, mimicking the same gift given by the deity ‘Toyotamahime’ to her brother, ‘Hotakaminomikoto’ – to whom the shrine is dedicated.

 Live performances and food stalls round-out the charming festival atmosphere which is popular with locals and visitors to the region. One of the highlights of the Matsumoto/Azumino region each winter! Entry is free of charge.
